The best boat tour

There is no single best Spree cruise, because the boats don't sail the same water. Pick the route first, then the voice on the microphone, then the price.

Booking choice: The 1-hour live-guide cruise, from $24 per person. Check dates Tour details

Search for the best boat tour in Berlin and you get a list of bestsellers that look alike: white boats, an hour or two, around $25 to $40. They are not alike. The 1-hour loops stay in Mitte. The long Stern und Kreis trip heads west to Charlottenburg. Only the eastern routes pass the East Side Gallery, and only one takes the Landwehr Canal.

Below every cruise on this site, side by side, and a pick for each kind of traveller. Prices are from-prices on GetYourGuide, checked in October 2026.

The quick answer

Best overall for a first visit: the 1-hour Hadynski cruise opposite Berlin Cathedral, the one boat with a live guide in English ($24). Best long trip: the Spree and Landwehr Canal bridges tour (3 h 15, $40), the only route that covers east, canal and centre. Best for the East Side Gallery in comfort: the solar catamaran ($40). Best for groups: a self-drive GoBoat ($66 per boat for up to 8). Best evening: the dinner cruise from Charlottenburg ($90).

What is the best boat tour in Berlin?

For most first-timers, the 1-hour Hadynski cruise with a live English and German guide. For a half day, the bridges tour on the Spree and the Landwehr Canal.

The Hadynski hour wins on three counts: a real person talking in English, a glass roof for bad weather, and a pier opposite the Cathedral that is easy to find. Guests call it "Very cost effective." The bridges tour wins if you have the time, because it is the only trip that strings together the East Side Gallery, the Oberbaum Bridge, the Landwehr Canal and the government quarter in one loop.

The rest are best at one thing each. That is fine, as long as the one thing is what you want.

Which 1-hour cruise is best: Hadynski or Stern und Kreis?

Hadynski for the live English guide and the glass roof; the Stern und Kreis C4 from Friedrichstraße for more departures and the most convenient station.

Both loop through Mitte past Museum Island, the Cathedral and the Reichstag. The differences are practical. The C4 hour leaves from Am Weidendamm, five minutes from S+U Friedrichstraße, and ran eight departures between 11:00 and 16:00 on a late-October weekday (timetable). Commentary on board is German; English comes through the free audio guide. One guest summed it up: "You get to see the sights in comfort while enjoying a glass of wine."

The Hadynski boats, MS Carola and MS Franziska, have a glass roof that opens in warm weather and closes when it rains. The guide talks live in both languages. It runs March to December only. Neither pier is step-free.

Which boat tour goes past the East Side Gallery?

The bridges tour from Jannowitzbrücke, and the solar catamaran from the Oberbaum Bridge. The 1-hour Mitte loops and the self-drive boats, which head east, don't.

The East Side Gallery stands between the Ostbahnhof and the Oberbaum Bridge, east of the centre. The bridges tour passes it in its first half hour. The solar catamaran starts by the Oberbaum Bridge and passes it right away, heading west. One catch: the famous murals face the street, so from the water you see the back of the wall. The full story is in the East Side Gallery guide.

What is the best long boat tour in Berlin?

The 3 1/4-hour bridges tour, for variety. The 2 1/4-hour cruise west to Charlottenburg, for palaces and calm water.

Visitberlin counts between 960 and 2,100 bridges in Berlin, depending on what you count (visitBerlin). The C1 bridges trip passes more than 50 of them and goes through three locks: the Oberschleuse, the Unterschleuse and the Mühlendamm lock. Commentary is live in German, with an audio guide in 11 other languages. Food and drinks come to your seat; you can't bring your own.

The west loop from Friedrichstraße is the quieter choice: Bellevue Palace, the Chancellery, Charlottenburg Palace and back through the Westhafen and Spandau ship canals. No East Side Gallery, no Kreuzberg. Until 1 November 2026 the bridges tour skips the Landwehr Canal for construction work, so in that window the west loop is the better long trip.

Which Berlin boat tour is best for families and groups?

Families: a 1-hour loop, with the live guide for older kids. Groups of 4 to 8: a self-drive GoBoat, priced per boat.

An hour is the right length for children. On the Hadynski boat, infants sit on an adult's lap and children up to 13 pay a reduced fare when you buy direct. Stern und Kreis has stroller access to the enclosed deck on the C4, though the pier itself has stairs.

For a group, GoBoat is the cheapest per head: one electric boat for up to 8 people, no licence, $66 online. The skipper has to be at least 18 and stay sober, and you can bring your own picnic (GoBoat). The suggested routes head upstream, past the Molecule Man to Treptow and the Rummelsburger See, not into Mitte.

What is the best boat tour for an evening?

The dinner cruise from Charlottenburg if you want a meal; the Stern und Kreis evening city tour at 18:15 if you only want the lights.

The dinner cruise boards at 18:00 at the Caprivibrücke and sails at 18:30 for about 2 1/2 hours, with a welcome Prosecco and three or four courses. Its cancellation terms differ between sources, so check them at checkout. The cheaper option is Stern und Kreis's evening city tour (C2), from EUR 31.50, 18:15 from Friedrichstraße. Details and sunset timing in the evening cruise guide.

Is there a boat tour beyond the city centre?

Yes: the Potsdam palace cruise on the Havel, about 1 1/2 hours past Babelsberg, the Glienicke Bridge and Pfaueninsel.

The Spree flows into the Havel in Spandau, and the Havel is where Berlin's water turns green. Weisse Flotte's palace tour leaves Potsdam harbour at Lange Brücke and passes Babelsberg Park, slides under the Glienicke Bridge, where spies were swapped in the Cold War, and turns at Pfaueninsel. Commentary is in German and English. A half day with the train out from Berlin.
